Brian Murley of the Center for Innovation in College Media shared this blog post by a community college newspaper adviser about what happened when his paper (published every three weeks) went online only.

Interestingly, not a single student complained although some faculty did.

Thanks Judy. I’m not surprised, however, that no students complained since the paper was published only every three weeks. When something’s not there on a daily or almost-daily basis, you don’t miss it when it disappears entirely. Also, campus-wide weekly (or semi-weekly) emails are incredibly valuable and something every newspaper should strive to do – whether or not the print edition exists. When you’re pushing the news out to readers, of course they will visit your website more regularly.
